More Than a Moment
At the Michigan Blind Athletic Association, we often talk about confidence, access, and belonging. These ideas shape everything we do—but they don’t exist in isolation or in a single moment.
Real growth happens over time.
It happens when young people are met where they are, supported consistently, and encouraged to move at their own pace. It happens in environments where effort is valued, curiosity is welcomed, and mistakes are part of learning—not something to fear.
Adaptive sports are one way we help create those environments.
For blind and visually impaired youth, access to movement isn’t just about physical activity. It’s about self-trust. It’s about learning how their body moves, how to navigate space with confidence, and how to advocate for what they need. It’s about feeling capable—and feeling like they belong.
Those outcomes don’t end when a season wraps up or an event concludes.
The confidence built through adaptive sports shows up in classrooms, friendships, and everyday challenges. It shows up when a young person tries something new, speaks up for themselves, or believes they are capable of more than they once thought.
That’s why our work is ongoing.
Behind the scenes, we’re always preparing—training coaches, maintaining adaptive equipment, planning programs, and building partnerships that make year-round access possible. This steady work ensures that when athletes step into our spaces, they feel supported, safe, and empowered.
We’re deeply grateful to the families, volunteers, donors, and community members who make this work possible. Your support allows us to keep showing up—not just for moments of visibility, but for the long-term growth that truly matters.
At MBAA, we believe confidence is built with care, consistency, and community.
And we’re committed to continuing that work—every step of the way.
